The Risk & Claims Manager is the person who ensures that every F&B team member with an active workers' compensation claim or a work restriction is managed with care, consistency, and the discipline that protects both the individual and the organization. Every injured team member who has a clear point of contact throughout their claim, every modified duty placement that gets a crew member back to contributing before full medical release, every claim that closes at the right outcome because someone was actively managing it from day one - this role is accountable for those outcomes.
The descriptions below are representative of, but not limited to, the duties and responsibilities for this position.
Active Claim Management & Team Member Advocacy
Manages all active workers' compensation claims from intake through closure.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for injured team members - ensures they understand the claims process, have access to appropriate medical care, and are treated with the dignity F&B's values require.
- Monitors claim status, treatment progress, and work status updates; communicates proactively with injured team members throughout their recovery rather than waiting for them to initiate contact.
- An injured team member who feels uninformed or unsupported is not an acceptable outcome regardless of the financial status of the claim.
Leads F&B's return-to-work program with disciplined placement discipline.
- Identifies modified duty opportunities for team members with work restrictions; coordinates placement with field supervisors and operational leaders and communicates restriction parameters clearly to all parties.
- Develops and maintains modified duty job offerings across F&B's operational functions; follows up regularly to ensure placements are working and restrictions are being honored.
- A team member who is medically able to perform modified duty and is sitting at home is a return-to-work failure - this role closes that gap proactively.
Maintains accurate, current records of all team members with active work restrictions.
- Tracks restriction parameters, expiration dates, treating physician instructions, and accommodation status across all regions; communicates restriction changes to supervisors and HR promptly when medical status updates are received.
- Coordinates with HR on ADA and FMLA intersections with workers' compensation leaves.
- A supervisor who allows a restricted team member to perform work outside their restriction because this role did not communicate a change is a documentation and communication failure.
Maintains complete and accurate claim files and coordinates with carriers and TPAs.
- Ensures incident reports, medical records, treatment authorizations, work status notes, and correspondence are organized and current in the claims management system.
- Coordinates with the workers' compensation carrier or TPA on claim status, treatment authorizations, medical management, and adjuster communications.
- Provides the Director of Risk Management with regular claim status summaries, emerging exposure flags, and documentation needed for reserve reviews and carrier meetings.
Coordinates F&B's response to workplace injuries from the moment of report.
- Ensures the incident is documented accurately, the injured team member accesses appropriate medical care promptly, and the workers' compensation carrier is notified within required time frames.
- Partners with the Safety team on incident investigation so the cause of injury informs both the claim and the…
