Stores Clerk - mon, 1st

Summary

Michigan Technological University is seeking a Stores Clerk (12 months, 1st shift) for our Residential Dining departments. The role involves receiving, inventory, and distribution of products, delivery of raw and prepared items as required, and assisting with catering and other deliveries as needed.

• Assist with the completion of a weekly physical count of inventories on hand.
• Assist with the completion of inventory ordering and coordinate with supervisor as needed.
• Receive vendor deliveries, inspect shipments, and ensure quality and condition of products received.
• Review invoices and record discrepancies.
• Assist with the request of vendor credit memos as needed.
• Store received goods in an orderly fashion, rotate stock, and break down cases.
• Operate university vehicles including car, pickup truck, and delivery van.
• Assist with purchasing inventory items from approved vendors as directed.
• Fill kitchen requests for food and supplies to be pulled from storage locations.
• Prepare, organize, deliver, and set up food and associated items per customer requests.
• Pick up equipment.
• Prepare special reports.
• Maintain safe, clean, sanitary storage and work areas including loading dock and vehicles.
• Compare invoice pricing with computer database pricing and update accordingly.
• Interact with customers in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.
• Apply safety‑related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work.

• High School diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and abilities.

• Two years of experience in a food service operation.
• One year of experience ordering and maintaining inventories in a food service environment.
• Six months of experience serving customers.

• Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with food items, product descriptions, packaging, and storage practices.
• Ability to quickly learn and follow instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and meet Michigan Tech University’s vehicle use requirements.
• Familiarity with computers, including the use of computerized menu management systems and electronic order entry systems.

• Demonstrated success in or potential future contributions to working with persons from a wide variety of backgrounds and viewpoints.

The work environment may include exposure to wet, humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold or heat; moving mechanical parts; and high, precarious places. Noise levels are moderate to loud. The employee will frequently work outdoors and may be required to sit, climb, balance, taste or smell, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to handle objects, reach with hands and arms, and regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.

• All employees receive four required trainings:
