You’re invited to join our Remarkable Care Team as a Food Service Worker.
SummaryPerforms a variety of food service tasks in meal assembly, delivery, dishwashing and metal ware.
Duties and Responsibilities- Set-up and clean-up of tray lines assembly area, including hot and cold food items, silverware, dishes, napkins, salads, desserts, breads and beverages.
- Prepares work stations by stocking food, non‑food items and equipment as necessary.
- Works on assembly tray line stations and reads tray tickets to provide correct food items.
- Loads trays on delivery carts.
- Operates elevator to deliver and pick‑up carts to patient care units and outpatient clinics.
- Takes food service supplies to patient rooms and outpatient clinics.
- Removes trays from patient rooms and soiled locations.
- Buses all patient and customer serving trays.
- Operates mechanical dishwasher, cleans equipment, kitchen areas and unloads food from delivery carts.
- Cleans and sanitizes all metal ware, cooking pots, pans and utensils.
- Maintains food service elevator, work areas and equipment as scheduled.
- May be asked to prepare simple foods like sandwiches and salads.
- Maintains records such as tray delivery and pick‑up schedules.
- Assembles department trash for transport and may need to transport to specific areas.
- Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaches conflict constructively, offers solutions and participates in resolution.
- Maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, employee and visitor information, discloses only to appropriate personnel in private settings.
- Assumes responsibility for job duties in the safest manner, reports hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
- Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Three to six months on‑the‑job training or previous experience required.
RequiredSkills and Abilities
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math calculations.
- Ability to walk and stand for long periods, up to 100% of the work day.
- Ability to lift and push up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 50% of work time.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with staff, other department personnel and patients.
