Superintendent of Water & Sewer

Overview

Working under the direction of the Director of Water & Sewer, the position will manage the day-to-day operations of the Divisions of Water and Sewer. This is administrative and supervisory work overseeing the field activities and personnel of the Department of Water & Sewer. This position is also expected to cooperatively participate in project and operational activities with the Director of Municipal Services, the Township Engineer, and other Township management, contractors and consultants.

Significant emphasis is placed on maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of operations. Although general direction is received from the department head, the duties and responsibilities require considerable independent judgment and initiative.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions, duties and responsibilities of the position.

• Supervisory experience in the construction, operation and maintenance of treatment systems and/or water distribution or wastewater systems.
• Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of municipal organization and management.
• Must have the ability to maintain electronic records and reporting using work order software.
• Must have the ability to effectively organize and direct department activities and to analyze and resolve problems.
• Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Township officials, employees and the general public and communicate effectively in writing and in oral presentations.
• Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver’s license.
• Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalent.
• Experience and education requirements can be substituted at the discretion of the Director.
