Job Summary
The Supervisor Operations is responsible for leading the safe, reliable, and efficient day-to-day operation of a coal-fired generation station for an electric utility. This role provides frontline leadership for station operations personnel, supports strong unit performance and environmental compliance, and partners closely with maintenance, planning, and dispatch to meet production goals while maintaining a strong culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
EssentialFunctions
- Lead and reinforce safe work practices while driving strong team performance, productivity, and equipment stewardship across station operations.
- Direct the operation of coal‑fired generating units to support unit output, efficiency, environmental compliance, and high equipment availability.
- Coordinate closely with Maintenance, Planning, and Dispatch to prioritize unit needs and improve overall generating system reliability.
- Provide daily coordination, direction, and support for station activities to ensure safe and disciplined operational execution.
- Communicate openly, clearly, and frequently with station personnel, leadership, and cross‑functional partners.
- Serve as the station’s lead management representative during back shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Oversee initial and ongoing training for Operations and Maintenance Technicians to support qualification, development, and operational readiness.
- Support the development, review, and continuous improvement of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
- Utilize plant systems and tools, including Maximo, to support planning, execution, and operational accountability.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of heavy industry experience required.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience in a heavy industrial, utility, or power generation environment.
- Understanding of plant operations, operating priorities, and the business and economic factors that support sound operational decision‑making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate openly, clearly, and frequently.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Ability to foster teamwork, encourage participation, and promote individual accountability to achieve high performance expectations.
- Ability to document and evaluate employee performance, administer overtime and timekeeping requirements, and enforce company policies.
- Ability to effectively manage disputes, conduct grievance research and hearings, and interpret and apply company policies and union contract provisions.
- Commitment to safe work methods, proper use of personal protective equipment, and disciplined operational leadership.
- Ability to manage budgetary expenditures within parameters established by senior management.
- Ability and willingness to work a 4 on / 4 off rotating shift schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Strong knowledge of power generation equipment, systems, and control technologies preferred.
- 5+ years of electric generation experience preferred.
- Previous heavy industrial leadership experience preferred.
- Previous experience leading represented employees preferred.
$96,600.00 - $
The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job‑related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
