The OpportunityWe are looking for someone to lead the next phase of growth for a longstanding, trailblazing sustainable and fair-trade apparel company in the greater Ann Arbor, Michigan area. This is a strong business, with strong, principled people, and loyal customers. It makes high quality products that honor the environment and the people involved—something that is complex and not easy to do if you are serious about it.
The company has huge potential to reach a much wider audience, and we are looking for a President with the right experience to make this happen.
The ideal fit is strongly aligned with the company's values around transparency and doing right by people and planet. This person must be able to embrace the complexities of how the company does business with its supply chain and others, as this values-driven approach is the core of what differentiates the company and the brand.
Importantly, this person should also have hands‑on experience growing a D2C brand from single‑to‑double-digit MMs in revenue. Ideally, this person would have had P&L ownership while doing so. A strong marketing background is an expectation.
The company is in a good place operationally. It is about building on what the company already has in place, in partnership with the employee owners, who have a strong sense of accountability. We are looking for someone who is Michigan‑based and available to work with the team in person.
What You Will DoServe as President of a mission‑driven sustainable and fair‑trade apparel company. You will own full P&L responsibility, business strategy, and operations, and will report to a Teamshares Industry Lead who supports a portfolio of 20 companies within the sector.
Drive Revenue GrowthLead efforts to grow the business through marketing, outreach, and the development of new products and accounts—with particular emphasis on D2C channel expansion to reach a much wider audience.
Execute Operational Business ObjectivesDevelop and execute repeatable business processes to achieve key business results. Whether it's documenting existing effective methods or developing new structures, you will be responsible for establishing and tracking key operational metrics and financial outcomes.
Collaborate on Financial DecisionsWork closely with Teamshares staff and company‑level financial partners to manage ongoing expenses, capital purchases, and growth initiatives.
Lead Growth InitiativesAct as a growth leader, working with employee‑owners to improve company operations and expand revenue opportunities—building on the strong operational foundation already in place.
Manage HR and Personnel MattersHandle HR responsibilities, including staff disputes, employee performance evaluations, job reviews, raises, and bonuses.
Build RelationshipsInvest in the local Michigan community and build strong relationships with customers, vendors, supply chain partners, and mission‑aligned organizations.
Transition to Employee OwnershipCollaborate with Teamshares and fellow shareholders during the transition to employee ownership, coaching and partnering to instill an owner's mindset that drives better business outcomes and fosters a positive, values‑aligned company culture.
