We’re looking for a dedicated and skilled Area Supervisor in the Waters service area to lead safe and efficient maintenance, construction, and emergency restoration activities for our electric distribution system within a designated service area. As the third-largest Michigan-based electric utility and the state’s largest member‑owned power company, we serve over 128,000 meters with pride. Beyond delivering reliable electricity, we are leaders in advanced fiber technology through True stream, our communication solutions subsidiary.

At Great Lakes Energy, we prioritize enriching the lives of our community members and employees. With over 300 team members, we’re more than just colleagues – we’re a close-knit family, united by a shared vision of growth, innovation, and community service.

A Day in the Life of an Area Supervisor

On a typical day as an Area Supervisor, you’ll start by reviewing the day’s assignments and preparing schedules for your crew. You ensure all necessary equipment, materials, and safety gear are ready for the day’s tasks. After a quick morning briefing, you might head into the field to oversee maintenance, construction, or restoration work.

Throughout the day, you’ll monitor ongoing projects, verifying that safety protocols are being followed and that quality standards are met. You might also conduct staking or design operations for new installations, communicating with customers to clarify project requirements and providing cost estimates.

In the afternoon, you may meet with contractors to coordinate schedules, review project quality, or address any unexpected challenges. If a service issue arises, you’ll step in, assess the situation, and ensure your team is ready to respond. Before wrapping up, you’ll complete administrative tasks like processing time sheets, updating records, and documenting work performed.

Who You Are

You’re a natural leader who knows that safety is always the first priority. You lead by example, ensuring your team stays protected and that every project meets high standards. Problem‑solving is in your DNA – you’re resourceful and calm under pressure, especially when a quick decision is needed to keep things moving.

You’re also great with people, whether it’s guiding your crew in the field or meeting with members to address their needs. You know how important reliable power is to the community, and you’re always ready to provide clear, thoughtful communication to resolve any issues. Technically, you’re comfortable with everything from industry‑specific tools to software like Customer Information Systems (CIS) and Microsoft Office.

You’re equally at home balancing hands‑on work with the administrative side, ensuring your team’s records, schedules, and materials are always in order.
