The Department of Residence Life at Southwestern Michigan College is committed to providing residents with an on‑campus environment that promotes student success, engages students through intentional interactions, and challenges them to grow both academically and personally.
The Residence Hall Manager position is a full‑time, live‑in position with primary responsibility for a co‑ed residence hall community inside a residence hall. The Residence Hall Manager shall interpret, explain and enforce the College and Residence Hall policies, standards, expectations and regulations.
Required Qualifications- Previous residential life leadership, or similar, experience.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, technical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to cope with stress and crisis concerns, manage a variety of customer responses, make reasoned and balanced decisions in moderately complex situations.
- Working knowledge of issues facing community college student populations.
- Utilize the Southwestern Michigan College Mission to create and maintain an atmosphere conducive to achieving academic excellence for students.
- Supervise, develop, and evaluate Student Employees and Resident Assistant staff using departmental based outcomes.
- Coordinate and promote activities and events with campus partners to enhance the co‑curricular experience.
- Create communication and marketing of Residence Life policies, programs, and processes to current and incoming residential students.
- Administrate weekly RA staff meetings and monthly RA one‑on‑ones evaluation meetings.
- Attend weekly pro‑staff meetings, monthly one‑on‑ones with the Director of Residence Life and attend all residential department meetings as needed.
- Supervise monthly health and safety inspections completed by RA staff.
- Coordinate or assist processes including student move‑in and move‑out, staff recruitment, staff selection, training, recognition, evaluation, room selection, room changes, housing assignments, room condition reports, assessment of room and building damage, management of housing records/files, and key management.
- Assist in data collection and evaluation of departmental outcomes as part of departmental and College‑wide assessment initiatives. Manage and submit administrative reports and forms.
- Maintain frequent communication with the Residence Hall Managers, Director of Residence Life, Vice President for the Student Experience, Maintenance, Housekeeping, Campus Life, Campus Security, Student Success, and other college staff.
- Participate in a weekly on‑call duty rotation.
- Understand that when asked, may have to assist, supervise, and respond to issues in all residence halls, regardless of whether they are directly responsible for that residence hall.
- Be visible and accessible to residents within your community.
- Participate in communication and collaboration with academic warning systems and student/faculty/staff.
- Serve on College committees as assigned.

The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
