Metrology Technician | Spring Lake, MI

Salary Range: $51,000 - $78,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities

• Perform precise calibration and verification of measurement tools and equipment.
• Operate, program, and maintain Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and other advanced metrology systems.
• Conduct detailed dimensional inspections of manufactured parts and assemblies using various metrology instruments.
• Document and maintain accurate calibration records, inspection reports, and measurement data.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues with metrology equipment and measurement processes.
• Assist in the development and improvement of measurement procedures and quality control standards.
• Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel on measurement techniques and equipment usage.

Recommended Qualifications

• Associates degree in Metrology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proficiency in operating and interpreting results from various precision measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, optical comparators, CMMs).
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience with calibration and verification procedures for measurement equipment.
• Basic understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis for quality assurance.
• Familiarity with metrology software packages (e.g., CMM programming software, data acquisition systems).

Bonus Qualifications

• Experience with advanced CMM programming (e.g., PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS) including complex GD&T and offline programming.
• Proficiency with 3D scanning technologies (e.g., laser, structured light) and associated software for reverse engineering or complex surface analysis.
• Demonstrated ability in statistical software (e.g., Minitab) for advanced Measurement System Analysis (MSA) and process capability studies.
• Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation standards and calibration laboratory best practices.
