PurposeSet up and operate conventional, CNC, and special‑purpose machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Set up and use machine equipment, including CNC, milling, boring, drilling, tapping, threading, and lathes.
- Operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and hoists.
- Utilize JD Edwards, work order routings, parts lists, and paperwork to complete jobs accurately.
- Read, interpret, and utilize blueprints.
- Deburr parts and ensure quality checks before sending parts to the next operation.
- Verify work using machinist measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Maintain tight tolerances as required by engineering and customer specifications.
- Perform periodic maintenance on all equipment in machine shops.
- Utilize jigs and fixtures to maintain consistent quality.
- Program, calculate, and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth/angle of cut.
- Confere with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or supervisors to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Ensure cutting tools and drill bits are in good condition and replace them when required.
- Program CNC equipment using G‑M codes and conversational programming languages.
- Float to different areas within the machine shop as directed by the supervisor to keep machining centers on schedule.
- Execute and support the quality system and procedures to foster continuous improvement.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Machine products to engineering specifications and each customer’s quality standards.
Associate’s degree (A.A.) from a two‑year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to work with mathematical concepts and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables where limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical DemandsRoutine standing, use of hands for fine motor tasks, occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Requires close, peripheral, and focus adjustment vision.
Work EnvironmentExposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, occasional fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise. Work is typically performed in environments that are loud and sometimes involve hazardous materials.
