Mold Setter – 2nd Shift
This role sets up and changes molds on plastic extrusion and injection presses during 2nd shift in a clean, modern manufacturing facility. You will perform 4–5 mold changes per shift, ensure safe lockout/tagout procedures, dial in process parameters, and troubleshoot first-piece parts until they meet specification. You will work as part of a two-person team to support production of secondary plastic components that are shipped to other facilities for final assembly.
Responsibilities- Perform 4–5 mold changes per shift on small extrusion presses and plastic injection presses (approximately 400–700 ton).
- Follow lockout/tagout procedures to safely shut down machinery before working any mold change or maintenance activity.
- Disconnect and unscrew all water and hydraulic hoses, remove the existing mold, and transport it to the tool room using appropriate equipment.
- Install and secure the new mold, reconnect and attach all water lines, and verify correct connections before start-up.
- Set and adjust temperatures and other process parameters, then run a first-piece trial to validate the setup.
- Inspect and troubleshoot first-piece parts (addressing issues such as burns, splay, and shorts) until they meet quality specifications.
- Document mold changes and setup parameters as required to support consistent production and quality standards.
- Operate cranes and forklifts (hilo) safely to move molds, tooling, and related equipment.
- Work effectively in a two-person mold-setting team, coordinating tasks with up to four team members per shift.
- Support continuous production by responding promptly to mold-related issues and minimizing downtime.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area around the presses and tool room interfaces.
- Adhere to all safety, quality, and operational procedures within the manufacturing facility.
- At least 2 years of mold or die setting experience in the plastic industry.
- At least 2 years of crane and forklift (hilo) experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience setting up and changing molds on plastic processing equipment such as extrusion or injection presses.
- Ability to perform safe lockout/tagout procedures on production machinery.
- Capability to work 6 days per week on a consistent basis, including potential overtime.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with tools and industrial equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot and adjust process settings to achieve parts within specification.
- Capacity to work effectively in a small team and communicate clearly with coworkers and leadership.
- Reliability and willingness to work an 8-hour 2nd shift schedule.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience troubleshooting first-piece issues such as burns, splay, and short shots.
- Previous experience working with plastic injection presses in the 400–700 ton range.
- Familiarity with small extrusion equipment in addition to injection molding presses.
- Comfort operating overhead cranes up to 60 tons for mold handling.
- Experience working with dual profile rotary and double-shot injection presses.
- Experience using brands such as Engels and Van Dorns presses.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.
- Ability to thrive in a smaller plant environment with close-knit teams.

WorkEnvironment
The work takes place in a very clean, new manufacturing facility with a smaller production floor and a close-knit team atmosphere. The plant runs small extrusion machines and plastic injection presses in the 400–700 ton range, including dual profile rotary and double-shot injection presses from brands such as Engels and Van Dorns. Mold handling utilizes 60-ton overhead cranes and forklifts (hilos).
You will work 8-hour shifts, typically 6 days per week, with occasional 7-day weeks as needed. Available shifts include 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.), and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.), with this position focused on 2nd shift. The environment emphasizes cleanliness, safety, and teamwork in a modern plastics manufacturing setting.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $37440.00 - $37440.00/yr.
Direct hire, benefits start 1st of the month following hire date. Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO, short and long term disability.
