Job Summary

Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools, fits and assembles parts to fabricate or repair machines, and maintains industrial machines and support equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Works safely and applies safe practices at all times.
  • Uses proper safety devices in a correct manner and utilizes safety techniques when working in and around equipment and/or non‑production areas.
  • Accurately diagnoses and solves mechanical problems as they arise.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs pumps.
  • Welds a variety of different materials using various types of welding equipment.
  • Assembles, troubleshoots, and repairs all equipment.
  • Uses and accurately reads precision measuring equipment.
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Accurately completes all work order and record/document work performed.
  • Coordinates with and through others to accomplish required tasks.
  • Layouts a Bill of Material for any job.
  • Responds immediately to situations as they arise within the facility.
  • Installs tooling accurately and completely.
  • Applies knowledge to improve mechanical procedures within set standards.
  • Adheres to and complies with all General Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s).
Qualifications

Required qualifications to perform this job successfully.

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a mechanic in an industrial environment.
  • Possesses a valid State of Michigan driver’s license.
  • Has or can obtain a forklift license.
  • Previous forklift and scissor lift driving experience helpful.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, policies, procedures, quality specifications, and written reports.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment diagrams, manuals, and specifications.
  • Ability to write routine reports, record data, and generate correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others inside and outside the Maintenance Department.
  • Ability to use a computer and utilize standardized software programs.
  • Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply and divide to calculate figures and amounts for proportions, area, circumference, and volume; understand standard and metric measurements.
  • Reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; deal with problems involving several concrete variables in a standardized situation.
Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Stand in a designated area for long periods of time.
  • Lifts 30 pounds on a regular basis with no assistance and heavier weights with assistance.
  • Occasionally lift 30 pounds above shoulder height.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, squat, and crouch.
  • Reach above, at, below, and to the side, while twisting body and wrist.
  • Climb stairs and ladders regularly.
  • Pull non‑powered pallet jacks while loaded with up to 1000 lbs of material.
  • Work on platforms at various heights.
  • Grip small parts.
  • Twist hands at wrist while gripping and/or carrying items.
  • Work in elevated positions over 25 feet.
Vision and Hearing

Employee must have the vision abilities required by this job: close vision, peripheral vision, distance vision, depth perception, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. Employee must have sufficient hearing to be aware of sirens and horns. While performing this job, the employee must wear PPE, follow GMP’s, and be trained in knife safety.
