CNC Machine Operator – 2nd Shift

The CNC Machine Operator sets up, operates, and tears down CNC mills and lathes to produce high-quality parts in a machining and assembly environment. You will perform tool changes, interpret blueprints and drawings, use precision measuring instruments, and inspect your own work to ensure parts meet specifications. You will also perform minor machine maintenance, with training provided as needed, while contributing to a clean, efficient, and safety-focused production floor.

Responsibilities
  • Set up CNC machines (mills and lathes) for production, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling, fixtures, and work holding.
  • Perform tool changes on CNC mills and lathes as required by each job or production run.
  • Operate CNC machines to produce parts according to established specifications, work instructions, and production schedules.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions, tolerances, and machining sequences.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring instruments to verify part dimensions and ensure parts meet quality standards.
  • Inspect parts during and after machining to identify and correct any flaws, defects, or out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Perform minor maintenance on CNC machines, such as cleaning, lubrication, and basic adjustments; receive training for these tasks if not already experienced.
  • Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain accuracy, repeatability, and productivity.
  • Follow established procedures for machine setup, tear down, and changeover to minimize downtime between jobs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the machines and within the production floor.
  • Collaborate with team members, leads, and supervisors to resolve machining issues and support continuous improvement.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, company policies, and quality standards while working on the production line.
  • Train on first shift as required before transitioning to second shift responsibilities.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of experience setting up CNC machines (mill or lathe) in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 1 year of experience performing tool changes on CNC mills or lathes.
  • At least 1 year of CNC machine operation experience on mills or lathes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CNC machine operation, including starting, stopping, and monitoring machining cycles.
  • Ability to read and use measuring instruments, specifically micrometers and calipers, to verify part dimensions.
  • Hands-on experience with machining processes using CNC mills and CNC lathes.
  • Capability to perform machine setup, tear down, and basic adjustments safely and accurately.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions, work orders, and production documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, defect-free parts.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Experience performing basic or minor machine maintenance on CNC equipment.
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing or similar high-precision production environment.
  • Familiarity with flexible shaft couplings, gears, speed drives, or other power transmission components is a plus.
  • Comfort working in a machining and assembly environment with long production lines and multiple machines.
  • Stable work history with clear, constructive reasons for job changes.
