Position: Machinist Maintenance (Quinnesec, MI)
Location: Quinnesec

Purpose

The Machinist is responsible for safely setting up, operating, maintaining, and repairing machine shop equipment to manufacture and restore precision components that support mill operations. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Key Accountabilities
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements to ensure a safe work environment and prevent injuries.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain manual machining equipment, including lathes, mills, grinders, balancing equipment and other related machining equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
  • Perform precision machining operations to required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Use precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions and maintain accurate records.
  • Support equipment rebuilds, repairs, and maintenance activities through machining and measurement documentation.
  • Troubleshoot machining equipment and tooling issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on machine shop equipment.
  • Maintain tooling, consumables, and steel inventory.
  • Partner with Operation, Maintenance and Engineering teams to identify equipment concerns and support preventive and corrective maintenance efforts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, efficiency, and reliability.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Respond to operational needs, including occasional overtime, call-outs, or emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required
    • Technical certification or associate’s degree in machining, industrial maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as a machinist, with a strong understanding of machining processes and equipment.
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant machining experience is preferred.
    • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency with manual machines; including lathes, mills, grinders, and other machining equipment.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
    • Strong precision measurement and troubleshooting skills.
    • Knowledge of machining techniques, materials, and tooling.
    • Multi-craft maintenance experience preferred.
    • Familiarity with SAP or equivalent CMMS systems.
    • Understanding of predictive and preventive maintenance practices.
    • Strong computer skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and make sound decisions in fast-paced environments.
  • Certifications:
    • Machinist trade school or industry certification is a plus.
Work Environment
  • Industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Frequent standing, walking, lifting, climbing, and working in noisy or dusty conditions.
  • Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or alternate schedules as business needs require. May require occasional overtime, call-outs, or flexible scheduling to support operational requirements.
