Abrasives Lead – Confidential Manufacturing Opportunity

Location: Farmington Hills, MI
Job Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Industry: Advanced Manufacturing / Precision Manufacturing

The Opportunity

Our client, an established and highly respected precision manufacturing organization, is seeking an Abrasives Lead to join its growing operation.

This is much more than a production position. The individual selected for this role will have the opportunity to take ownership of an important manufacturing process, provide day-to-day leadership to the team, and develop into positions of increasing responsibility.

The opportunity for advancement within this organization is extremely high. The company is specifically interested in identifying someone who can grow with the operation and potentially take on greater supervisory, technical, and/or operational leadership responsibilities over time.

What You'll Be Doing

The Abrasives Lead will help oversee the day-to-day production of precision abrasive products, with a major emphasis on raw material preparation, mixing, accuracy, process consistency, quality, and team leadership
.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and support employees within the abrasives production area while helping coordinate daily workflow and priorities.

  • Accurately measure, weigh, mix, and prepare raw materials according to established formulas and specifications.

  • Verify that the correct materials, quantities, and formulations are being used for each production order.

  • Maintain an extremely high level of accuracy throughout the mixing and production process.

  • Monitor processes to ensure consistency, quality, and adherence to specifications.

  • Assist with forming, pressing, sintering, finishing, and/or other abrasive manufacturing processes as required.

  • Identify production or quality concerns and work with appropriate team members to determine corrective actions.

  • Maintain accurate production, batch, material, and quality documentation.

  • Train and mentor team members on proper procedures, safety requirements, quality expectations, and manufacturing processes.

  • Help organize workload and ensure production requirements are completed efficiently.

  • Promote a clean, organized, and safety-focused working environment.

  • Work closely with manufacturing, engineering, quality, and management teams to improve processes and production results.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve quality, consistency, efficiency, and material utilization.

What We're Looking For

Because this is a Lead-level position
, candidates should have previous experience providing leadership, training, supervision, or day-to-day direction to other employees.

Ideal candidates may come from backgrounds such as:

  • Abrasives manufacturing
  • Chemical manufacturing or chemical processing
  • Batch mixing / blending
  • Raw material processing
  • Ceramics
  • Powdered materials
  • Compounds, coatings, resins, or adhesives
  • Precision manufacturing
  • Process manufacturing
  • Laboratory-to-production environments
  • Chemistry or applied chemistry

Candidates with chemistry backgrounds are encouraged to apply. A traditional manufacturing background is not the only path into this position. Someone who understands formulations, raw materials, precise measurements, mixing processes, documentation, and quality control could transition very well into this opportunity.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous supervisory, team lead, or manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Experience working with raw materials, formulas, recipes, batches, or controlled mixing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow precise specifications.
  • Experience using scales, measurement equipment, shop tools, or production equipment.
  • Understanding of quality procedures and process documentation.
  • Ability to troubleshoot production issues and recognize process inconsistencies.
  • Comfortable working hands-on while also providing leadership to others.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Chemistry, materials science, chemical processing, manufacturing, or related education/experience is a plus.
The Right Person

The strongest candidate will be someone who combines hands-on technical ability with leadership potential
.

You don't necessarily need to have spent your entire career in abrasives. We're interested in individuals who understand how important formulation, raw material control, precise measurement, repeatability, and process discipline are to producing a high-quality product.
