The Certified Nursing Assistant performs duties to meet the personal care needs of residents in compliance with Snyder Village policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities , Duties and Authority- Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures and safety rules and regulations.
- Follows instructions issued by the Hall Nurse and established routine. Reports on and off duty. Completes all duties assigned before end of shift.
- Demonstrates adherence to CNA Expectations.
- Observes residents and notes physical condition, attitude, reactions, appetite, etc. Reports any changes in condition to Hall Nurse.
- Assists residents with activities of daily living.
- Bathes residents as assigned – complete/partial bath, H.S. care, tub or shower.
- Dresses residents neatly, in their own clothing.
- Combs and brushes residents’ hair in a.m. and at bedtime.
- Trims toenails and fingernails as directed.
- Shaves male residents daily. Keeps female residents facial hair shaved.
- Maintains incontinent residents clean and dry at all times. Reports the presence of pressure areas to prevent bedsores. Changes bed linens and clothing as needed.
- Assists residents to and from bathroom. Provides bedfast residents with bedpans or urinals.
- Encourages residents to perform ADL’s which they are capable of. Assists residents with restorative and rehabilitative care, including PROMs.
- Transports residents to meals and supervises residents in dining rooms. Assists with trays and helps feed residents. Assists with personal care after meals (cleaning resident’s faces, hands and clothing).
- Makes beds, sets room in order, keeps drawers and closets neat. Fills supplies in resident’s rooms and charges out appropriately.
- Serves nourishments and fresh water as scheduled.
- Prepares residents for rests, physician visits, therapy, activities, church, etc. Transports residents and assists with the above activities as needed.
- Performs personal services for residents within reason such as reading to them, writing letters for them, operating TV and radio, and assisting them with recreational and therapy projects in their rooms.
- Maintains residents in correct and comfortable position. Turns and repositions residents at least every two hours.
- Uses safety devices (body alarms, restraints, etc.) correctly as ordered. Uses gait belt when transferring and walking residents. Uses proper body mechanics at all times.
- Assists relatives, visitors and guests.
- Applies standard precautions (including isolation techniques) in all resident care to prevent spread of disease and infection.
- Responsible to understand and care appropriately for residents with special needs, including ventilators, dementia, feeding tubes, oxygen, etc.
- Electronic charting required. Takes and records vital signs, weights, intake and output, and applies non-prescription ointments as directed.
- Answers call lights promptly.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, calm environment, personal interest and positive emphasis. Maintains a cooperative attitude with peers and other Departments.
- Maintains confidentiality of all resident information. Observes residents rights.
- Reports all accidents/incidents to the Hall Nurse as soon as possible.
- Assures that all work areas are clean and that equipment and supplies are properly stored. Sanitizes equipment as needed and scheduled. Empties linen barrels as assigned. Washes BM and stains from linens before putting them in the laundry hamper.
- Uses work orders to report any need for maintenance and repair of rooms, furniture or equipment.
- Guides and provides on-the-job training to new CNAs and agency personnel as directed by the Aide Supervisor.
- Responsible for notifying the Hall Nurse immediately in case of resident abuse or suspected resident abuse.
- Performs other and related duties as assigned.
- Attends monthly CNA meetings, in-services and Care Plans as scheduled.
