Part‑time, Day or Night Shift

Responsibilities
  • Manage the care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay, achieving quality outcomes and timely discharge under general supervision.
  • Utilize the nursing process: assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate care provided by other professionals and delegate selected acts, tasks or functions to nursing assistants or universal service assistants.
  • Provide selected aspects of physical care within the scope of professional nursing practice, given the patient’s acuity and complexity.
  • Document and communicate during each tour of duty the patient’s response to care, consumption of resources, and anticipated needs.
  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to the patient’s health or situation.
  • Assess the patient’s physical and developmental needs and analyze assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs.
  • Document nursing history and age‑appropriate physical/emotional needs, strengths, and review vital signs to detect deviations from normal.
  • Identify patient problems or issues, confirm them with patient and family when appropriate, and document expected outcomes and plan of care.
  • Define expected outcomes, incorporating patient/family input and considering patient values, ethical and cultural considerations.
  • Coordinate discharge planning for outcomes not achieved, utilizing the continuum of care available.
  • Prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes, incorporating clinical pathways when appropriate.
  • Develop individualized interventions with patient input when appropriate and consider data from other members of the healthcare team.
  • Implement the plan, including administering prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies.
  • Utilize evidence‑based interventions specific to the patient’s plan and maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs.
  • Initiate a patient education plan and coordinate its implementation.
  • Organize and delegate patient care interventions, evaluating the effectiveness of care given by self and others.
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes and document patient response.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and use results to initiate changes in nursing practice.
  • Participate in ongoing educational activities related to appropriate knowledge and professional issues, maintaining professional records of competency.
  • Conduct self‑evaluation in relation to professional practice standards and relevant statutes, rules and regulations.
  • Share knowledge and skills with peers and colleagues, maintaining compassionate and caring relationships.
  • Collaborate with patient, family, and others to effect change and generate positive outcomes based on the plan of care.
  • Integrate ethical provisions in all areas of practice, preserving patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights.
  • Use research to improve patient health and practice environment, participating in data collection and research committees as appropriate.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, cost and impact factors in planning and delivery of nursing services, assigning or delegating tasks accordingly.
  • Provide leadership in the professional practice setting, attending unit staff meetings and participating in committees.
  • Vary shift and schedule details as needed, following operational requirements and unit needs.
Qualifications and Certifications
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Must obtain a Bachelor’s degree within 8 years of hire; failure to do so results in termination.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in good standing for the state of Michigan.
  • BLS certification required upon completion of core orientation.
  • Other certifications such as Critical Care or ALS may be required for some units.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from computer systems and equipment to set an appropriate plan of action.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform related tasks.
  • Strong problem‑solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain self‑accountability.
