Summary

Sign on Bonus up to 14k for qualified candidates! The Registered Nurse (RN) functions primarily in direct patient care, demonstrating competent clinical practice. The RN triages patients, obtains patient history and vital signs, assesses patients, and acts independently to initiate immediate care in life‑threatening situations when a physician is not available. The RN provides care for acutely ill and non‑acute patients, performs procedures with complex and simple nursing skills, assists physicians, offers physical and psychological comfort to patients, families, and visitors, delivers discharge and follow‑up instructions, answers ambulance radios, and issues pre‑hospital care orders.

The RN works with sophisticated equipment and manages various patient types in a frequently stressful environment.

Responsibilities
  • (25%) Performs nursing assessments, intervenes appropriately and promptly, and participates in care planning.
  • (25%) Regularly assesses patient needs and provides skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician‑authorized plan of care and accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • (20%) Processes physician/provider orders accurately, completely, and in a timely manner, and follows up on medication changes and order clarifications.
  • (15%) Evaluates effectiveness of the treatment plan and makes suggestions or facilitates changes to improve patient care.
  • (15%) Actively participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information.
  • Uses physical assessment techniques (auscultation, percussion, palpation, observation) to identify patient problems and care needs.
  • Recognizes self‑limitations and seeks appropriate resources.
  • Reassesses patient health status and identifies significant changes.
  • Individualizes plan of care and coordinates it with team orders.
  • Communicates pertinent aspects of care to patients, families, and other health‑care workers.
  • Initiates home‑health referrals when appropriate.
  • Sets priorities and implements nursing measures that align with the identified plan and standard of care.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and takes action to manage symptoms and promote comfort.
  • Demonstrates respect for patient dignity and privacy.
  • Documents nursing interventions and patient responses.
  • Maintains a safe patient environment and prevents risk situations.
  • Provides patient/family education, explaining procedures, using educational materials, and documenting instructions.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills with customers.
  • Assists peers in patient‑care activities.
  • Recognizes stress in others and uses positive coping techniques.
  • Prioritizes Emergency Department care according to patient acuity.
  • Ensures accountability by following medical‑center policies, procedures, and attendance expectations.
  • Participates in continuing education programs, computer‑based learning modules, ED in‑service training, and ED skills days.
Qualifications

Essential experience and skills include a minimum of two years of nursing experience in a medical‑center or similar setting, proficiency in airway management, cardiac monitoring, IV therapy, blood gas analysis, venipuncture, and physical assessment, and the ability to handle multiple tasks and work independently. The RN must be able to manage stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death, and be comfortable wearing personal protective equipment.

Certifications

and Licensures
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 12 months of hire or transfer)
  • BLS – Basic Life Support (within 3 months)
  • TNCC or ATCN – Trauma Nurse Core Course or ATCN (within 12 months)
  • PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 24 months)
  • RN – Registered Nurse (Associate’s degree in Nursing required, Bachelor’s preferred)
  • ENPC – Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (one‑time requirement; employees at Saginaw, Tawas, and Standish locations must complete by January 1 2026)
  • TEAM ADVANCED – Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (within 6 months; 24 months for positions occupied on or before 8 / 1 / 2024)
