Overview

This position is for a Practical Nurse responsible for performing a full range of nursing assignments within a Correctional Facility. The role requires extensive knowledge of nursing procedures and basic nursing techniques and is performed under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.

• Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols.
• Conduct patient assessments and record findings in medical charts.
• Assist with patient hygiene, transfers, and mobility as needed.
• Provide basic nursing care, including wound care and vital sign monitoring.
• Collaborate with the medical team to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff.

• Certificate from a practical nursing education program accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing.
• Active Michigan practical nurse license (or proof that license will be obtained before employment).
• No specific amount of prior nursing experience required; training will be provided.

• Complete all required background and criminal history checks in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
• Provide documentation of a clean criminal record or evidence that any convictions have been satisfied in full.
• Complete a non-custody new employee training (40 or 80 hours) as required by the department.
• Submit all application documents through NEOGOV and attach official transcripts if requested.

• All employees must meet the ethical standards and conduct required by state law.
• Report any potential conflicts of interest; refer to the department’s Ethical Standards and Conduct policy.
• Employees are prohibited from possessing any personal or financial interest in a business or entity that is contracted with the state of Michigan.
