Registered Nurse (RN) – 1:1 School Nurse

Cedar Springs, MI | Starting at $48,000 annually | Benefits Eligible | Summers Off

Why This Role Is Different

This role provides 1:1 nursing support for a student during the school day.

As a 1:1 school nurse, you will be assigned to support one student who requires ongoing medical care. Your role is to help remove health-related barriers, support independence, and ensure the student can fully participate in their educational environment.

Unlike traditional school nurse positions that cover large student populations, this role allows you to focus on individualized care, relationship-building, and consistent support for one student throughout the school day.

You'll become an integral part of the student's support team, working closely with school staff and the student's family to provide safe, compassionate, and reliable care each day.

When the student is absent or additional support is needed, you may also assist the school with medication administration or other routine nursing needs.

Schedule
  • 4 days per week, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
  • Approx 32 hours per week| 0.64 FTE
  • Wednesdays and Fridays will alternate as the scheduled day off each week, creating a rotating four-day workweek.

This schedule includes riding the school bus with the student to and from school as part of the workday.

This role follows the school-year calendar, meaning you have:

What Your Days Look Like

You'll provide nursing support within the school setting, including:

  • Providing 1:1 nursing care for a student throughout the school day
  • Performing tracheostomy care and monitoring the student's respiratory status
  • Administering medications and treatments as prescribed
  • Assessing and responding to illness, injuries, or medical emergencies during the school day
  • Maintaining accurate health records and documenting care provided
  • Collaborating with teachers, administrators, therapists, and families to support the student's health and educational goals
  • Supporting safe participation during classroom activities, transportation, and throughout the school day
  • Serving as a health resource for school staff and assisting with health-related needs as appropriate
Program Details

Primary responsibility is supporting one student in a general education setting who requires ongoing tracheostomy care during the school day.

Includes riding the school bus with the student daily.

The (Required) Qualifications

To practice safely and compliantly, we do need:

  • Active, unrestricted Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Experience with tracheostomy care preferred
  • Experience working with pediatric patients or school-aged children preferred
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff and families
  • BLS certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross) within 90 days of hire
  • Background check and fingerprinting will be required for this role
