Henry Ford Health System is seeking a contingent Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Orthopedic team in Macomb, MI. This role includes independent trauma clinic responsibilities, inpatient coverage, and management of orthopedic trauma and consults in the ER and inpatient settings. Providers will perform procedures such as fracture and joint reductions, joint injections and aspirations, splinting, casting, and skeletal traction, as well as assist in surgery.
The position offers a blend of inpatient and outpatient orthopedic exposure while allowing providers to follow patients across the full continuum of care—from outpatient clinic visits through surgery, post-operative recovery, and long-term follow-up—creating meaningful patient relationships and strong clinical continuity. The Macomb Orthopedic Service Line offers a highly collaborative, APP-supported team culture where your voice is heard and your expertise is valued.
Providers practice at the top of their scope with support from a dedicated Lead APP who understands the complexity of advanced practice and actively advocates for professional growth. This role also provides significant opportunities for procedural skill development, close collaboration with orthopedic residents and general orthopedic surgeons, student precepting, and mentorship within a learning-focused environment. With strong operational support, thoughtful scheduling, and AI-assisted documentation tools designed to reduce administrative burden, this position allows APPs to focus on delivering exceptional patient care while continuing to grow and make a meaningful impact as part of a dynamic orthopedic care team.

Employment contingent upon credentialing and completion of Employee Health screening per HFHS policy.
Qualifications:
- NP or PA graduate from an accredited program
- Current (or in-process) Michigan licensure
- National certification (ANCC, AANP, or NCCPA)
- BLS required; ACLS required (or obtained after hire)
- 1-3 years of ortho experience or 3-5 years practicing as a PA/NP
Exposure to the OR and 1-3 years as a first assist
Credentials:
Education & Training
Physician Assistant (PA):
Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
Nurse Practitioner (NP):
Completion of a Nurse Practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
Licensure
Current licensure as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan, or in the process of applying (proof of application required).
Certification
PA:
Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
NP:
National certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan (e.g., ANCC, AANP)
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – required
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – required (may be obtained after hire)
DEA / Controlled Substance Licensure
- PA: DEA and Michigan Controlled Substance License (CSL) required through credentialing
- NP: DEA registration required through credentialing; NPs do not hold a Michigan CSL and will use their Michigan license number during the application process
