Bronson Battle Creek Registered Nurse Med​/Surg and Observation Units Full-Time Day or Night Shift

Position Summary

Full‑time registered nurse positions in Med/Surg and Observation units at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, Battle Creek, Michigan. Shifts include day and night.

• Float Pool – Experienced staff who float to the units below as needed
• General Medical Unit – 37‑bed cardiac/pulmonary unit, 10‑bed clinical decision unit focused on chest pain
• Neurovascular/Orthopedic Unit – 30‑bed unit, includes orthopedic renewal center for total joint replacement
• Oncology/Medical/Surgical – 37‑bed unit, variety of patient types including many surgeries
• Observation Unit – 14‑bed short‑stay unit under general supervision

Under general supervision and in accordance with policies, procedures, and guidelines, the registered nurse manages care delivery for patients throughout the length of stay to achieve quality outcomes and timely discharge.

Responsibilities include:

• Using the nursing process of assessment, planning, diagnosing, implementation, and evaluation
• Coordinating care with other professionals
• Delegating selected acts, tasks, or functions within scope and the abilities of patient care assistants and universal service assistants
• Providing selected aspects of physical care within scope, appropriate to patient acuity and complexity
• Documenting and communicating patient response to care, resource consumption, and anticipated needs during each tour of duty
• Demonstrating competencies specific to the population served

  • Collect comprehensive data pertinent to patient health or the situation, assess physical and developmental needs, and analyze assessment data to identify appropriate patient needs
  • Document nursing history and age‑appropriate physical/emotional needs and strengths; review vital signs to detect deviations from normal
  • Identify patient problems or issues using assessment data; confirm problems with patient and family when appropriate; document expected outcomes and plan of care incorporating clinical pathways and outcome teaching records
  • Identify expected outcomes for individualized plans; incorporate patient/family input, patient values, ethical and cultural considerations; coordinate discharge planning for outcomes not achieved utilizing the continuum of care available
  • Develop plans prescribing interventions to attain expected outcomes; incorporate clinical pathways and, where appropriate, individualized interventions with patient input; consider data from other team members when developing the plan of care
  • Implement the identified plan; administer prescribed medication and treatment in accordance with approved nursing techniques and policies; utilize evidence‑based interventions specific to the patient plan; maintain awareness of comfort and safety needs; initiate patient education plans and coordinate implementation; manage the care plan by organizing and delegating interventions; evaluate effectiveness of care provided
  • Evaluate progress toward attainment of expected outcomes; assess effectiveness of interventions and patient response; document patient response toward expected outcomes
