The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) Instructor is responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and evaluating classroom, lab, and clinical instruction for CNA candidates in accordance with Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) and applicable state regulations. The instructor facilitates learning that enables students to successfully complete the Michigan CNA training program and achieve certification.
Qualifications- Associate Degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Active, unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
- At least two (2) years of clinical nursing experience and at least one (1) year of long‑term care nursing experience in Michigan.
- Completion of an accredited Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training program, adult learning course, or documented experience supervising nursing assistants.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification.
- Preferred: previous experience in teaching, training, or mentoring;
Michigan Train‑the‑Trainer certification required. - Active participation in hands‑on skills demonstrations and clinical supervision.
- Physical capabilities: ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 6–8 hours), bend, lift, push, pull, and assist with patient‑mobility simulations, handle manual dexterity for clinical procedures, effective verbal and written communication, occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds using proper body‑mechanic techniques.
- Work occurs in classroom and skills‑lab settings, with periodic clinical rotations in long‑term care or affiliated healthcare facilities.
- Potential exposure to body fluids, communicable diseases, and standard healthcare equipment during instructional activities.
Physical: standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, squatting, lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, reaching with hands and arms, speaking, hearing, and maintaining a work environment that may include exposure to wet, humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and moderate to loud noise levels.
Mental: detailed work, student contact, deadline orientation, problem situations, multiple priorities, emergency situations, confidentiality, prompt communication, and ability to work both independently and with others.
