Role SummaryLicensed Practical Nurse – Med/Surg Units, Part‑time, Day and Night Shift Opportunities at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, Battle Creek, Michigan.
Key Responsibilities- Assist the Registered Nurse in providing prescribed medical treatment and personal care services within the scope of practice for ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled patients.
- Collect and record patient data, including food and fluid intake, vital signs, weight, and other demographic information.
- Administer IV fluids and medications orally or by injection, ensuring safety and proper documentation.
- Respond to patient call lights and monitor alarms, providing assistance to patients and families.
- Perform wound care, dressings, enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and compresses; massage patients as needed.
- Assist with patient bathing, dressing, walking, turning, and mobility.
- Collect specimens such as urine, blood, and sputum for testing.
- Prepare and administer food according to prescribed diets.
- Wash and dress bodies of deceased persons and assist with infant care.
- Assemble and use medical equipment, including catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies.
- Sterilize equipment, inventory supplies, and requisition necessary items.
- Maintain a clean, orderly environment and manage patient flow within the unit.
- Document all interventions, data gathered, and care provided using computerized systems.
- Provide patient education materials based on identified needs and coordinate discharge processes with physicians and RNs.
- Communicate patient status, interventions, and pertinent information to the care team.
- Participate effectively as a member of the health care team and support new employees and students.
- High school diploma or General Education Development (GED).
- Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nursing program.
- Licensed Practical Nurse in good standing with the State of Michigan.
- BLS certification by the end of the core orientation period.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out specific clinical competencies within a general orientation period of approximately three months.
- Physical capability to move quickly, lift light objects (≤20 pounds) and assist in heavier tasks as needed.
- Proficient in data entry and retrieval from computerized systems.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with clear, grammatically correct speech and legible writing.
- Positive, comforting demeanor toward patients, visitors, and team members.
- Experience in a health care delivery setting is preferred.
