Under the general direction of the Parks and Recreation Director, the Park Ranger Manager is responsible for supervising, training, scheduling, and coordinating the daily activities of Seasonal Park Rangers. This position ensures safe, efficient, and professional park operations while maintaining compliance with Gratiot County policies, park rules, and applicable ordinances. The Supervisor serves as the primary point of contact for seasonal ranger staff and provides on‑site leadership during assigned shifts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise, train, and provide day‑to‑day direction to Part‑Time Seasonal Park Rangers.
- Prepare work schedules and assign patrols, duties, and special event coverage.
- Ensure consistent enforcement of park rules, ordinances, and safety procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections of park facilities, grounds, and amenities; identify maintenance or safety issues and coordinate corrective action.
- Provide customer service to park visitors and address complaints in a professional and effective manner.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback, coaching, and documentation as required.
- Assist with onboarding, training, and evaluation of seasonal ranger staff.
- Maintain logs, incident reports, and operational records.
- Assist with opening and closing of park facilities, including gates and buildings.
- Support special events, peak‑use periods, and emergency operations.
- Operate County vehicles, utility carts, and equipment as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Work is performed primarily outdoors in Gratiot County parks and recreation areas with regular interaction with the public and seasonal staff. Exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, and emergency situations may occur.
Additional Requirements- Successful completion of background check and pre‑employment screening.
- Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Compliance with all County policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Previous supervisory or lead experience.
- Ability to effectively supervise staff, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Prior experience in park operations, public safety, recreation, or facilities management.
- Experience supervising seasonal or part‑time staff.
- Knowledge of local ordinances, park rules, and public safety procedures.
- Ability to walk, stand, and patrol park areas for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
