Under the general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Department, the Seasonal Park Ranger is responsible for assisting with the operation, maintenance, safety, and visitor services of County parks and recreation facilities. This position provides public contact, enforces park rules and ordinances, performs routine maintenance, and supports a safe and welcoming environment for park visitors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrol County parks, trails, campgrounds, and facilities to ensure safety, cleanliness, and compliance with park rules and regulations.
- Provide information and assistance to park visitors, including directions, park rules, and facility use.
- Enforce park policies, ordinances, and regulations through education and appropriate corrective action.
- Respond to visitor concerns, incidents, and minor emergencies; report issues to supervisors or appropriate authorities as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including trash removal, restroom cleaning, minor repairs, and grounds upkeep.
- Assist with opening and closing park facilities, including gates and buildings.
- Monitor park amenities such as playgrounds, picnic areas, trails, and boat launches.
- Complete incident reports, logs, and other required documentation.
- Assist with special events, programs, and peak-use periods.
- Operate County vehicles, utility carts, and basic equipment as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in parks, recreation, outdoor maintenance, customer service, or public safety.
- Knowledge of park operations, natural resources, or outdoor recreation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to walk, stand, and patrol park areas for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, and other weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily outdoors in County parks and recreation areas. Exposure to varying weather conditions, insects, uneven terrain, and public interaction is expected.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Successful completion of background check and pre-employment screening.
- Compliance with all County policies and procedures.
