Pet Care Assistant

Work at Banfield Pet Hospital as a Pet Care Assistant.

The Pet Care Assistant works with the veterinary medical team to provide and prepare for the best medical care of pets, ensuring a happy, welcoming, friendly and efficient manner that encourages client satisfaction and referrals.

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Prepare the treatment room, the necessary medical items and supplies for the veterinarian and/or veterinary technician.
• Set up fecals, smears and skin scrapings as allowed by state rules and regulations.
• Maintain the flow of the Cycle of Service in accordance with position.
• Provide client education regarding preventive care, Optimum Wellness Plans and status of hospitalized pets.
• Support the Client Services Coordinator staff as needed.
• Hold or restrain pets during examination, treatment or inoculation.
• Prepare routine in‑house laboratory tests (e.g. canine heartworm, feline leukemia, FIV, canine parvovirus).
• Monitor and ensure the comfort of hospitalized patients by walking, exercising, feeding and cleaning cages.
• Bathe and dip pets when necessary to treat dermatological conditions.
• Clean the surgical suite and instruments, and perform housekeeping tasks such as laundry, dishes, mopping, cage cleaning, trash removal and instrument cleaning as outlined by hospital protocols.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma preferred.
• At least 18 years old to perform duties involving radiography.
• One year of related experience required; customer service experience preferred.
• Ability to multi‑task and shift attention among multiple tasks under distracting conditions with no loss of accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Client‑service orientation and ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Mathematical ability (arithmetic, rate, ratio and percent).
• Computer skills, comfortable with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook.
• Initiative, integrity, cooperativeness, flexibility, independence and resilience under stress.

Work at a computer for long periods of time; work around pets (dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, etc.); may require more than 40 hours per week and work weekends and evenings. Must be physically able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift or carry up to 50 pounds. Good hand‑eye coordination and visual acuity are required. Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, controlled substances.

• Hourly pay $15.00 – $16.44.
