Maintenance - Sports Facilities and Grounds
Hamilton Community Schools has a part-time Maintenance opening for a Groundskeeper, primarily responsible for the upkeep of sports facilities and district grounds. Hardworking and self-motivated individuals are invited to apply for this position. The goal of this role is to assist in maintaining school grounds in a safe and attractive condition that contributes to a positive environment for learning and community engagement.
The Groundskeeper performs landscaping tasks using power equipment and hand tools, as well as assists with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, parking areas, and school entrances. This position reports directly to the Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor.

Work Schedule:
Year-round, part-time position up to 25 hours per week. Actual hours may increase or decrease depending on seasonal demands. Pay Scale: $18.50/hour
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
- Valid driver's license required
- Prior experience in groundskeeping or landscaping preferred
- Ability to safely operate and maintain a variety of landscaping tools and power equipment
- Basic understanding of landscaping techniques, including mowing, trimming, planting, and weed control
- Strong time management, organizational, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to follow instructions accurately
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team to complete assigned tasks
- Willingness to learn new job skills, technologies, and work processes
- Must possess and maintain appropriate licenses or certifications required for the role
- A Commercial Pesticide Applicator License is preferred, or willingness to obtain
- Must be neat in appearance and demonstrate good habits, character, and attendance
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a level sufficient to perform job duties effectively
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and the school community
- Commitment to following all district policies, especially those related to a tobacco-, nicotine-, and vaping-free environment
Responsibilities and Duties:
The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by a person in this position. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties that may be performed by such a person.
- Maintain and care for all district grounds, including sports facilities, school lawns, and landscaped areas
- Mow lawns, trim weeds, and rake leaves as scheduled or directed
- Perform weed control across all outdoor areas, including sports facilities and school grounds
- Assist with keeping sports facilities clean and in good repair
- Complete general cleaning tasks after events at sports facilities as directed
- Set up and remove sporting equipment and prepare athletic fields for use
- Clean bleachers and maintain athletic facility cleanliness
- Perform emergency repairs on sports facilities and grounds equipment when needed
- Provide upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, and other outdoor spaces
- Water lawns, trees, and plants using sprinklers, hoses, or watering cans
- Trim and care for bushes, shrubs, hedges, and trees; plant flowers and seasonal greenery as needed
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides under direction or with proper certification
- Assist with snow and ice removal from sidewalks, parking areas, and school entrances
- Perform minor maintenance on power tools and landscaping equipment
- Adhere to safe working practices and comply with local, state, and OSHA regulations
- Work positively and cooperatively with fellow staff and members of the public
- Refrain from using tobacco, nicotine, or vaping products on school property or in school vehicles, in accordance with Board policy
- Promptly return calls, respond to emails, and participate in job-related training when required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance and Grounds Foreman
