Position Overview:

Oversees comprehensive workforce safety to foster a culture where safety is first, directing the research, planning, development, and implementation needed to meet safety and compliance requirements in partnership with management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Direct development, delivery, and implementation of workforce safety and loss prevention programs across all departments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Develop and oversee emergency response plans, drills, and site coordination to ensure workforce readiness.
  • Coordinate reporting of workplace injuries/incidents, including OSHA 300 logs and Workers' Compensation support.
  • Oversee job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and development of proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Manage the Company Safety Manual and ensure staff acknowledgment and understanding of its content.
  • Lead the Company safety committee and drive continuous safety improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee FMCSA/MDOT CDL compliance and other mandated safe-driving requirements.
  • Establish and oversee processes for incident/near-miss investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and follow-up.
  • Track and report key safety metrics, analyze trends, and recommend improvements to leadership.
  • Ensure availability, maintenance, and proper selection of safety equipment and PPE.
  • Manage safety department staff, objectives, budgets, and performance in alignment with Company goals.
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and management on staffing, training, facility safety and contractor compliance.
  • Perform other safety and operational support duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or GED - required; associate degree or higher in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related field - preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a safety-related/construction role within utility, electrical line construction, or construction environments; emergency response experience - preferred.
  • 2+ years supervisory experience – preferred.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations (including OSHA 10/30 certification preferred) and utility/electrical industry safety standards.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record; ability to operate a vehicle to travel between job sites.
  • This position is required to be onsite.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of industry workforce safety and loss prevention practices; electric distribution theory, restoration, construction, and maintenance, federal, state, local laws and administrative regulations plus policies and procedures related to this field.
  • Knowledge of PPE requirements, job briefing/tailboard processes, and field hazard recognition specific to electrical line work and storm environments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and position-specific software/equipment.
  • Knowledge of training and certification standards for PPE, Hurt Man Rescue, Lockout/Tagout, boom truck and forklift operations.
Abilities:
  • Ability to travel with short notice and work extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays during storm deployments, often in adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently in the field, exercise sound judgment, and escalation concerns promptly.
  • Ability to research and provide relevant feedback/provide ideas/think innovatively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, employees and management.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, and supervision.
  • Must be able to speak publicly, instruct, and deliver training in group settings.
Physical Requirements of the Job

Work is frequently performed outdoors but will also involve sitting at a desk or table; work requires intermittent standing, walking, stooping; bending, climbing; reaching, gripping, grasping; must lift objects up to 50 pounds; will be exposed to machines and their moving parts as well as environmental elements.
