POSITION SUMMARY
This is an hourly position dedicated to the sampling and testing requirements assigned by management, in support of aggregate and concrete operations. This position will assist with administering, monitoring, and maintaining product quality in accordance with company, state, and federal specifications. QC techs will report directly to the QC Manager and have direct daily engagement with Plant Managers, Dispatchers, Drivers, Contractors, and other Technicians.
This position is centrally located within the Grand Rapids, MI. region, with local travel required. Schedules can vary, as specific project demands dictate. Weekend and overtime work as needed.
High Grade Materials is family owned and has been in business since 1975. We have 13 Ready‑mix plants and 7 Gravel Pit locations in Michigan. - Perform QA/QC testing on concrete and aggregates in accordance with MDOT, ASTM and ACI standards while adhering to MSHA, OSHA, and other safety guidelines both internal and external.
- Understand concrete mixes and aggregate gradations.
- Complete quality reports (i.e., cylinder reports, aggregate reports, submittals, etc.)
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Provide job‑site presence (i.e., oversight, pre‑pour and other jobsite meetings as required).
- Acknowledge and investigate customer complaints and/or concerns.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team towards shared goals with positive attitude.
- Effective coordination, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Basic math and computer skills. Ability to learn new software and basic data entry. Moderate level math/science and computer skills are preferred.
- Ability to ensure a safe work environment by prioritizing safety, then quality, followed by production.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects simultaneously and perform duties with minimal supervision.
- High school diploma
- 2+ years of Experience in the Concrete and/or Aggregate Industry
- Valid Driver’s License
- Thorough knowledge of construction (technology, equipment, methods), procedures, and standards
- Michigan Aggregate certified Level 1 & 2
- MCA/ACI Level 1 & 2
* Not required at time of hire. The company will provide the opportunity for certification.
