The Opportunity

We partner with manufacturers across Newaygo seeking First Article Inspectors who want more than a lateral move. These companies hire intentionally, and we connect them with professionals ready for roles that fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed inspections of first article parts and assemblies to verify conformance with engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Utilize a wide range of precision measuring instruments and equipment, including CMM, calipers, micrometers, gauges, and optical comparators.
  • Interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts to ensure accurate measurement and evaluation of critical dimensions and features.
  • Document inspection results thoroughly, including non-conformances, deviations, and findings, utilizing designated quality management systems and reports.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to investigate root causes of defects and support the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations for process improvements to enhance product quality and reduce defects in the first article inspection process.
  • Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment according to established schedules and procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements.

Recommended Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate's degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in quality inspection, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications (GD&T knowledge highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated ability to use a wide range of precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, height gauges, CMM).
  • Strong understanding of First Article Inspection (FAI) processes and AS9102 or equivalent industry standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to identify and document non-conformances.

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience with various measurement tools beyond CMM (e.g., optical comparators, laser trackers).
  • Familiarity with GD&T at an advanced level, including interpretation of complex callouts.
  • Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD models directly.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) certification.
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis.
