INRAE Presentation
The National Institute of Research for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE) is a public research institution that brings together a community of 12,000 people, with 272 research, service, and experimental units, located in 18 centers across France. INRAE ranks among the world leaders in agricultural and food sciences, plant and animal sciences. Its research aims to build solutions for multi-performing agriculture, quality food, and sustainable management of resources and ecosystems.
WorkEnvironment, Missions, and Activities
You will join a research team specialized in the study of interactions between plants and the microorganisms that surround them. You will contribute to work aimed at better understanding the role of microbiota in the functioning and health of plants, using molecular biology, microbiology, and plant experimentation approaches.
Your mission will be part of a funded research project on the interactions between plants and their microbiota. You will participate in the production of experimental data essential for the project's smooth running, in collaboration with scientists and other team members.
This position will allow you to contribute to research addressing major challenges for more sustainable agriculture. Through the quality of the experiments conducted and the reliability of the data produced, you will directly contribute to advancing knowledge on the interactions between plants and microorganisms.
In this context, you will be in charge of the following activities:
- Prepare plant samples for microbiota analyses
- Perform extraction and conservation steps of samples
- Prepare amplicon banks for metabarcoding analyses
- Contribute to sequencing analyses according to established protocols
- Set up and monitor experiments of microorganism inoculation on plants
- Ensure the follow-up of trials in greenhouses and culture chambers
- Ensure the traceability of samples and compliance with protocols
- Participate in field and experimental station sampling
- Organize experimental data
- Participate in research project meetings
Occasional travel is expected for sampling at experimental stations and for the annual project meeting in Lyon.
Required Education and SkillsBachelor's/Master's Degree (Bac+3/5)You hold a bachelor's or master's degree in microbiology, plant biology, ecology, biotechnology, or a related field.
Previous experience in microbiology, microbiota analyses, metabarcoding, or plant experimentation is appreciated.
Skills:
- Implement molecular biology techniques (PCR, preparation of amplicon banks)
- Handle biological samples in compliance with laboratory best practices
- Conduct plant experiments under controlled conditions
- Ensure the traceability of samples and experimental data
- Use IT tools for data tracking and organization
Attitudes:
- Rigor in the execution of manipulations
- Sense of organization
- Autonomy
- Appreciation for teamwork
- Respect for protocols and quality requirements
By joining INRAE, you benefit (depending on the type of contract and its duration):
- up to 30 days of leave + 15 additional leave days per year (full-time) - support for parenthood: CESU childcare, leisure activities;
- development of skills: training, career guidance;
- social support: counseling and listening, social aids and loans;
- vacation and leisure benefits: vacation vouchers, preferential rate accommodations;
- sports and cultural activities;
- collective dining.
