General Merchandise Department Manager

We are seeking a General Merchandise Department Manager who will lead our store’s team members and operations, ensuring high engagement, customer service, and financial performance.

• Lead, coach, and develop Leads and Team Leaders.
• Drive recognition, feedback, performance management, training and development, and succession planning.
• Direct Leads and Team Leaders, and ultimately be accountable for area operations and financials, including shrink, productivity, safety, scheduling and forecasting, and team member and customer conflict resolution.
• Oversee the execution of corporate plans, ensuring all services and products are effectively managed to maximize sales and productivity, and own budget line items in the P&L.
• Drive safety and compliance throughout the store, manage overall condition, and follow all compliance procedures.
• Identify and implement process improvements and serve as steward of the Meijer culture.
• Engage with team members in span of care to ensure appropriate onboarding, training, development, coaching and feedback.
• Identify talent and engage in career discussions to support overall store staffing and ensure a diversified talent pipeline strategy for team members and leadership roles.
• Conduct candid discussions to uphold Meijer standards and provide growth opportunities.
• Ensure Team Leaders and Leads assign daily work assignments and address training needs.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 4+ years of retail/grocery or customer service experience.
• Progressive leadership experience preferred.
• Passion to provide industry‑leading service.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate with team members and provide clear direction.
• Ability to analyze financial and statistical information to make informed decisions.
