Overview
Healthcare Security Specialist- PRN/Variable Shift
- Battle Creek
- Maintain the safety and security of Bronson Health care Group (BHG) properties and grounds, and protect patients, visitors, and staff.
- Uphold Bronson’s policies and procedures through the Standards for Excellence; provide professional, high‑quality customer service at all times.
- Greet patients and visitors and assist them to their destination.
- Complete reports and documentation; maintain annual department continuing education trainings and certificates, along with system computer-based learning (CBLs).
- Successfully complete required violent patient management and de‑escalation training as dictated by department and Bronson requirements.
- Utilize computer, tablet/mobile device, and security surveillance system for portions of the shift.
- Perform physical tasks as needed, including lifting up to 50 pounds and assisting with heavier tasks or movements of materials/equipment.
- Interact with other units and staff to assist with direct patient care situations where a security presence is needed.
- Maintain composure during stressful situations and emergencies; defuse and de‑escalate as part of response to resistance or workplace violence.
- Respond to calls for aid from various hospital areas, assist with calming or restraining of disturbed patients as appropriate, and escort individuals from hospital premises when necessary.
- Assist/communicate with staff, patients/visitors, and local law enforcement during codes or high‑readiness situations; respond to emergency security situations and codes as necessary.
- Investigate and prepare reports detailing accidents, thefts, lost property, safety and security violations, and follow up on incomplete reports.
- Serve as "charge" when assigned; coordinate routine operations and direct activities of other personnel; assume functional charge of the shift as assigned.
- Provide education as needed (e.g., access control, fire drills); assist with parking control and escort employees/visitors to their cars upon request.
- Patrol hospital buildings and grounds according to established rounds; conduct periodic unscheduled rounds; perform site‑specific duties as needed.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); security and/or healthcare security experience preferred.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license is required and must be insurable through Bronson’s insurance carrier.
- Ability to utilize/operate a computer, tablet/mobile device, and security surveillance system.
- Must demonstrate competencies for the population served if providing direct patient care.
- Must be able to take control during stressful situations and emergencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete incident reports and follow up on all incomplete reports.
