Overview
Job Summary The Farm & Industrial Equipment Mechanic is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing, and completing preventative maintenance on a fleet of heavy-duty trucks, tractors, field equipment and small engine machines.
The job requires the employee to work 40 hours per week and up to 50 hours per week during busy seasons.
Responsibilities- Performs all standard tractor repairs, general diagnostic work, and preventative maintenance on fleet owned equipment for defects and excessive wear within standard times
- Identify all worn and damaged parts, including diesel powered company tractors, and properly document all repairs or replacements performed
- Perform routine maintenance checks including inspecting brake systems, belts, heating/cooling systems, wheel end, and other DOT related items
- Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
- Manage asset inventory & repair frequency through system and create reports for leadership
- Support diagnoses of mechanical issues and equipment failures. Root cause issues and document accordingly
- Manage and oversee all warranty claims with the OEM and any other outside warranty companies. This includes containing costs by following warranty guidelines and evaluating parts and service options
- Maintain safe and organized work area; keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance, and calling for repairs
- Follow all state and federal vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards; follow company policies, procedures, and safety and EPA regulations. Must use all safety equipment necessary for the job
- Maintain current knowledge of job and technical skills by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical and regulation publications
- Continue the company's current preventive maintenance program, suggest and implement improvements
- Maintain work area appearance and safety
- Must be available to work weekends during the months of September and October to ensure success of our “busy season”
- The employee will be a part of the farm team, if there is interest in doing farm tasks outside of the shop work, the option is available
- High school diploma or equivalent required, Vocational/Technical or certification preferred, Certification in Automotive Technology, heavy equipment repair, diesel technology or equivalent experience
- Employee will be asked to supply their own basic tools.
- Practical experience in commercial class 8 truck repair field
- 2-4 years’ experience with elevated level mechanic responsibilities
- Positive attitude with strong problem-solving skills
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
- Goal-oriented, organized team player
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship abilities
- Self-motivated and self-directed
- Experienced at compiling and following strict budgets
- Accurate and precise attention to detail
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Proficient Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
