Performs repair and preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment owned by the Road Commission. Equipment includes pickup trucks, intermediate and large dump trucks, end loaders, motor graders, tractors, mowers, and other specialized heavy equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities(This list is not all-inclusive; additional duties may be assigned.)
- Maintain a valid Michigan Operator’s License, Class A CDL with Air Brakes, and current DOT physical card.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair:
- Diesel and gasoline engines (including computer-controlled systems)
- Transmissions, clutches, and differentials
- Hydraulic systems
- 12- and 24-volt electrical systems
- Wheels, tires, and air brake systems
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections, lubrication, oil changes, and filter replacements.
- Repair and fabricate body, cab, and suspension systems.
- Perform welding and fabrication using:
- Maintain accurate parts inventory and service records.
- Follow MIOSHA and Road Commission safety rules and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with foreman and fellow mechanics to ensure quality, productivity, and adherence to deadlines.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment.
- Participate in training sessions and work overtime as required.
- Vocational training, ASE or State certifications preferred but not required.
- Relevant heavy equipment or automotive repair experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, diagrams, and technical documents.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to diagnose problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret complex technical instructions in written and diagram form.
- Class A CDL with Air Brakes
- Valid DOT physical card
- Possess or be capable of obtaining certification in steering/suspension and air brake systems
Reports to:
Director of Fleet and Facilities
Starting Base Pay: $28.78/hr.
