Position SummaryWe are seeking a skilled and dependable Medium/Heavy-Duty Service Technician to join our Houghton Lake team. This position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upfit of heavy-duty commercial vehicles to meet company and customer specifications. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with heavy-duty trucks, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to grow their professional certifications. This role operates in a dynamic shop environment that may include work at elevated heights, in confined spaces, and with a variety of hand, power, and fabrication tools.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are representative of this role. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform maintenance and repair on company and/or customer-owned heavy‑duty and commercial vehicles
- Operate truck‑mounted crane safely and as directed
- Drive, back up, and maneuver bobtail trucks, semi‑tractors, and trailers in a safe manner
- Operate forklift; valid forklift certification required (or willingness to obtain)
- Work safely at high elevations and/or in confined spaces, including access through manways
- Perform MIG welding and use torches, grinders, and related fabrication tools as needed
- Conduct thorough repair inspections and accurately document findings and completed work
- Perform DOT inspections and Final Assembly Process & Quality Inspections
- Ability to accurately use gas detection device owned by Signature Truck Systems
- Understand basic principles of propane and safe handling procedures
- Diagnose and repair electrical and hydraulic system issues
- Assist with shop cleaning, trash removal, organisation, and general housekeeping
- Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and on time
- Maintain excellent verbal and written communication with team members and supervisors
- Apply mathematical computations (percentages, fractions, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) accurately and efficiently
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and documentation skills
- Use time productively and remain engaged throughout the workday

- Must be authorized to work in the United States – employment visa sponsorship is not available
- Experience working on heavy duty or commercial vehicles required
- Must have CDL with tanker and hazmat endorsements
- Must have own hand tools and toolbox
- Forklift experience preferred; must be certified prior to operating equipment
- Comfortable working at high elevations and in confined spaces
- Experience with MIG welding preferred
- Electric and pneumatic drilling, grinding, and power tool proficiency
- Able to recognize mechanical components and perform basic mechanical repairs
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic
- Understands electrical and hydraulic systems
- Must be willing to obtain Heavy‑Duty Truck (HDT) Mechanic Certification in the following areas:
- Drive Train
- Brakes & Braking Systems
- Suspension & Steering
- Electrical Systems
- Able to diagnose and repair complex mechanical problems independently
- Able to perform DOT inspections and Final Assembly / Quality Inspections
- Capable of operating with a minimum amount of supervision once fully trained
