Diesel Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic, Automotive Technician
Position Summary
With direct supervision from a Lead Technician, Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager, a Maintenance Technician B performs repair and maintenance work on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train and steering systems. The Maintenance Technician B may also perform basic tire work, such as replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks.
PrincipalResponsibilities
- Maintain a working knowledge of and moderate skill proficiency in vehicle components and systems, with the ability to perform preventive and repair maintenance functions both on-site and on the road.
- Repair and maintain chassis components.
- Repair and maintain refuse bodies, including control, hydraulic and electrical systems, and air and hydraulic braking systems.
- Perform engine repair and maintenance.
- Repair suspension, drivetrain, and steering systems.
- Install and maintain heating and air conditioning systems.
- Perform line maintenance welding and fabrication.
- Safely provide road service when necessary to ensure vehicles are returned to operation efficiently.
- Identify source of malfunctions using electronic tools.
- Complete applicable company training programs.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned or apparent.
- Basic understanding of work order labor time standards.
- Prior experience with, or knowledge of, maintenance work on Classes 1‑5 light/medium duty, heavy‑duty Class 7‑8 trucks, aircraft or ships.
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification (T1‑T8) a plus; not required.
- Commercial driver’s license a plus; not required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Minimum one year of experience in a technician position demonstrating knowledge of gasoline and diesel powered equipment diagnosis and repair, or graduation from an accredited automotive college or technical school within three months.
- Ability to perform basic inspections with limited supervision on suspensions & steering; engine, transmissions, brakes, electrical, hydraulics, drivetrain, diesel emissions.
- Hiring rate up to $30 per hour.
