Utilities Mechanic

What this job involves:
As a Chiller Utilities Mechanic you will leverage your technical expertise to analyze operations, troubleshoot complex issues, execute preventive maintenance programs, and optimize equipment performance to ensure uninterrupted building operations. Working on rotating shifts with a high degree of autonomy, you will protect our clients’ assets while maintaining the reliability and efficiency of mission‑critical systems.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities
  • Perform annual and semi‑annual preventive maintenance and repair service on water‑cooled and air‑cooled chiller systems, high‑ and low‑pressure air compressor systems, cooling towers, and pumps to ensure optimal performance and reliability
  • Execute hands‑on repairs and maintenance on various chiller manufacturers, air compressor systems, cooling towers, pumps, and motors using industry‑standard tools while adhering to all applicable codes, laws, and regulations
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on all base building and critical system equipment with minimal operational disruption, including assembling tools, completing assigned work, and thoroughly documenting all maintenance activities
  • Maintain detailed logs, document equipment repairs accurately, close work orders in a timely manner, and provide consistent communication to the Chief Engineer or Supervisor regarding system status and issues
  • Identify, utilize, and operate tools and equipment associated with mechanical systems while completing Job Hazard Analysis and required work permits to maintain safety compliance
  • Order materials as needed, maintain strict compliance with safety regulations, and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials in accordance with environmental standards
  • Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance of building systems, working collaboratively in confined spaces, elevated areas, and while wearing various personal protective equipment including respirators, safety harnesses, and chemical protective clothing
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • At least 4 years of direct work experience involving chiller systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA standards and local building codes with demonstrated ability to comprehend and recognize all job‑related work permits and complete Job Hazard Analysis
  • Boiler Certification
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Microsoft Office and Outlook proficiency
  • Physical capability to lift 50 pounds, perform overhead work, work at heights, and operate in confined spaces such as closets, crawl spaces, attics, and vaults without limitations
  • Skilled in operating electric hand tools, working from ladders, lifts, and scaffolds, and wearing various personal protective equipment while maintaining elevated work standards
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively as a team player and resolve workplace conflicts constructively
  • Basic knowledge of hazardous materials storage, usage, and disposal procedures in compliance with environmental regulations
  • Familiarity with State, County, or City ordinances, codes, and laws related to building operations and mechanical system maintenance

Location:

Mattawan, MI

Work Shift:

M‑F, 7am to 3:30pm. Rotation every 7 weeks for Saturday and Sunday of 12 hours.

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
