Journeyman Electrician (1st Shift)

This 1st shift Journeyman Electrician role (7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.) focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing complex industrial electrical systems, robotics, and production machinery in a manufacturing environment. You ensure the reliability and safety of automated fire protection manufacturing lines by performing expert electrical work, troubleshooting advanced equipment, and adhering to rigorous safety and documentation standards.

Responsibilities
  • Install power supply wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus for new machinery, including industrial robots, conveyors, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams to plan and execute installations and repairs accurately.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair malfunctioning electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors, electronic controls, and lighting fixtures.
  • Replace faulty electrical components including relays, switches, sensors, printed circuit boards (PCBs), and electric motor bearings to restore reliable operation.
  • Program and adjust automated equipment using robot controllers, teach pendants, and PLCs, and run operational tests to verify proper function after repairs.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems and equipment, including scheduled inspections and testing, to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, repairs, inspections, and machinery modifications in accordance with plant and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with Maintenance Machine Repairers and Tool Makers to distinguish electrical issues from mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic problems and resolve them efficiently.
  • Install, bend, and route conduit to support safe and code-compliant power distribution throughout the facility.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring electrical issues, recommending corrective actions, and implementing solutions to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Follow all plant safety procedures and electrical codes while working on energized and de-energized systems, ensuring a safe work area for yourself and others.
Essential Skills
  • Current Journeyman Electrician license.
  • Proven experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
  • Strong proficiency in installing power supply wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus for industrial equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
  • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting and repairing transformers, motors, electronic controls, and lighting systems.
  • Demonstrated skill in conduit bending and installation for industrial applications.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and pneumatics as they relate to electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with industrial automation, including robots, conveyors, and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Ability to use robot controllers and teach pendants to program and adjust automated machinery.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills for complex electrical and control systems.
  • Ability to document work clearly, including maintenance records, work orders, and machinery modifications.
  • Commitment to following safety regulations, electrical codes, and plant procedures.

  • Experience performing preventative maintenance programs in an industrial manufacturing setting.
  • Experience working collaboratively with maintenance and tooling teams to resolve multi-disciplinary equipment issues.
  • Familiarity with printed circuit boards (PCBs), sensors, relays, switches, and other control components.
  • Comfort working with both automated and conventional production machinery.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and repair.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate work and share technical information with cross-functional teams.
