Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the installation and maintenance of all electronic and electro‑mechanical controls and low voltage equipment for the Chippewa Correctional Facility. The employee will lead and oversee prisoner workers in maintaining electronic equipment, and may be called to resolve any technical troubleshooting, modification, or fabrication of security systems, computer systems, telephone systems, or other highly technical equipment. The technician may be required to respond to facility emergencies after normal hours, on weekends or holidays.
Qualifications- Possession of an associate degree in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics engineering, computer science, engineering, or electronics technology.
- Three years of experience in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and electronic equipment equivalent to an Equipment Technician, including one year equivalent to an Equipment Technician E10.
- Four years of experience in the same field may be substituted for the education requirement (in addition to the experience requirements for the specific levels).
- A certificate from a two‑year, post‑secondary, technical program in electrical, electromechanical, or electronics technology may be substituted for the education requirement.
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job‑specific or related coursework qualifies for the Equipment Technician 10 level.
- Completion of Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) – 40 or 80 hours initial in‑person training based on level of offender contact and job classification, plus additional online training.
- Applicants will be required to complete a drug test within 24 hours of a conditional offer of employment.
- Eligible for employment only if the applicant has not been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor, or, if such a conviction exists, has satisfactorily completed any sentence, parole, or probation.
