Maintenance Technician / Mechanic

Job Description
The function of the position is the maintenance, repair, and installation of mechanical system components. The scope of work includes repair & servicing of heating systems, pumps, air compressors, furniture, appliances, tools, building components, food preparation equipment, plumbing, and other miscellaneous items located within the correctional facility property. The position requires hiring, training, and supervising prisoner work crews and inspecting their completed work.
Employees will complete assignments independently, using judgment to make decisions related to specific work situations, and will be responsible for other duties assigned by supervisors. Work is performed both outside and inside the secure perimeter of a multi‑level correctional facility.

Experience:
- Maintenance Mechanic E9:
Four years assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including two years equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic 8. - Maintenance Mechanic 10:
Five years assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including one year equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic E9.
Education and Experience
A recognized vocational training program in mechanical or electrical trades may substitute for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.

Degree certificates are not accepted.
When attaching transcripts, name the college/university for each transcript.
New hires and returning former MDOC employees who have been away for more than two years will complete Non‑Custody New Employee Training (NCNET): 40 or 80 hours of initial in‑person training based on offender contact and job classification, plus additional online training.
