Role

Description:

The Marine Electronic Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Dexter, MI, with up to 150 days/year of field work.

This position is broken into two main task types:
Preparation and Deployment

Preparation: The employee is responsible for assembling, installing, testing, and maintaining marine electronic systems used in underwater robotics and geophysical survey platforms. Day-to-day tasks include wiring and soldering electronic components, diagnosing and troubleshooting sensors and control systems, and conducting routine maintenance and repairs on field equipment. The technician will assist with system integration, support equipment mobilization and demobilization for marine operations, and help document configurations, test results, and maintenance activities.

Collaboration with engineers and field staff to prepare systems for deployment and ensure reliable performance in demanding marine environments is a key part of the role.

Field Deployment: For up to 150 days per year (3-week rotations), the employee will take the prepared equipment into the field to support marine geophysical data collection operations. Operations include the deployment and operation of electromagnetic towed arrays, subsea robotic crawlers, subsea sensor packages, and Remotely Operated Vehicles, as well as the operation of hydrographic survey and geophysical data acquisition software and equipment.

As a member of a field team, the employee will be responsible for integrating subsea sensors, the in-field diagnosis and repair of faults, supporting the day-to-day running of Sea View Geophysical's survey vessels, inventory and management of spares, and

• Strong foundation in Electronics Technology and basic Electricity, with the ability to read schematics and work safely with electrical systems.
• Hands-on skills in Soldering, wiring, and electronic assembly for sensors, control modules, and related marine hardware.
• Proficiency in Troubleshooting, including diagnosing electronic and electrical faults and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Experience with Maintenance & Repair of electronic equipment, including preventive maintenance and field-ready repairs.
• Relevant technical training or degree in electronics, electrical technology, marine technology, or a closely related field.
• Comfortable working in workshop and marine operational settings, including handling tools, instruments, and field equipment.
• Ability to follow technical procedures, maintain clear documentation, and collaborate effectively in a small-team environment.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to support occasional travel for field operations; experience with marine systems or robotics is a plus.
