The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for installing, maintaining, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing machinery, equipment, and facility systems to ensure safe and efficient operations in a 24/7 residential training facility. This role performs both preventive and corrective maintenance and helps identify long-term reliability improvements. This position is also responsible for grounds maintenance, painting, repair of furniture and building fixtures. Employee may be called in after hours for maintenance emergencies and/or snow removal.

This position is in-person and onsite. This position does not have the potential for the chosen candidate to apply for a flexible/hybrid schedule.

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

No specific type or amount is required.

Two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades.

Four years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including two years equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic 8.

Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.

All newly hired state employees are required to submit and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to their actual appointment. Certain positions within the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity may also require state criminal, fingerprint-based and driving record background checks. Any position offer will be conditional until results of the background checks and drug test indicate eligibility for employment.
