This Role Matters

This role carries responsibility.

As a Youth Specialist, you are entrusted with the safety, supervision, and development of youth in residential care. The young people we serve depend on consistent, ethical, and professional adults.

This is not a casual role. It requires judgment, integrity, and emotional maturity.

Your Role

You will:

  • Supervise and guide youth throughout daily activities
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment
  • Implement individualized treatment plans with consistency
  • Model appropriate communication, behavior, and conflict resolution
  • Monitor surroundings and intervene when necessary
  • Review logs at the start of each shift
  • Complete all documentation accurately before the end of shift
  • Participate fully in required trainings and meetings
  • Serve as a mandated reporter under Michigan Child Protection Law

This role requires presence, awareness, and integrity.

Qualifications This Position Requires Strong Character

You must be able to:

  • Remain calm and professional during crisis situations
  • Apply Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) techniques appropriately
  • Maintain firm and appropriate boundaries
  • Make safe decisions even when no one is watching
  • Accept feedback and follow direction from supervisors
  • Work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays

We are looking for individuals who understand that working with vulnerable youth requires discipline, self-control, and ethical consistency.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Ability to obtain Level 1 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) endorsement
  • Ability to complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training and physically perform CPI techniques
  • Ability to obtain American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and Chauffeur's License (or ability to obtain Chauffeur's License)

Training is provided by the agency. Professional conduct is expected from day one.

This role is demanding. It requires maturity and accountability.
