As a Youth Specialist, you are entrusted with the safety, supervision, and development of youth in residential care. The young people we serve depend on consistent, ethical, and professional adults.

This is not a casual role.

It requires judgment, integrity, and emotional maturity.

Youth Specialists are expected to demonstrate:

You represent Wolverine Human Services every shift. We expect professionalism equal to that responsibility.

You will:

• Supervise and guide youth throughout daily activities
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment
• Implement individualized treatment plans with consistency
• Model appropriate communication, behavior, and conflict resolution
• Monitor surroundings and intervene when necessary
• Review logs at the start of each shift
• Complete all documentation accurately before the end of shift
• Participate fully in required trainings and meetings
• Serve as a mandated reporter under Michigan Child Protection Law

You must be able to:

• Remain calm and professional during crisis situations
• Apply Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) techniques appropriately
• Maintain firm and appropriate boundaries
• Make safe decisions even when no one is watching
• Accept feedback and follow direction from supervisors
• Work assigned shifts, including evenings, weekends, or holidays

We are looking for individuals who understand that working with vulnerable youth requires discipline, self-control, and ethical consistency.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Ability to obtain Level 1 Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) endorsement
• Ability to complete Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI) training and physically perform CPI techniques
• Ability to obtain American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Certification
• Valid Michigan Driver’s License and Chauffeur’s License (or ability to obtain Chauffeur’s License)

Training is provided by the agency. Professional conduct is expected from day one.

This role is demanding. It requires maturity and accountability. But for the right person, it is deeply meaningful work.

• Full-Time
• Non-Exempt position
• Reports to Youth Specialist Supervisor (based on assigned shift)

During our current staffing initiative, eligible Youth Specialists have the opportunity to earn additional compensation for hours worked beyond their regular schedule.

• $25 additional stipend for every hour actually worked over 40 hours in a workweek
• Paid in addition to regular wages and overtime compensation
• Available for eligible workweeks from July 26, 2026 through October 17, 2026
• Employees must be employed by Wolverine Human Services and in good standing during the applicable workweek
• Only hours actually worked count toward the 40-hour threshold
• Vacation, holiday, and other paid-leave hours do not count toward stipend eligibility

Example: A Youth Specialist who actually works 48 hours in one workweek will receive their regular wages and applicable overtime pay, plus an additional $200 stipend for the eight hours worked over 40.

This is a temporary appreciation stipend and is subject to applicable payroll taxes and with holdings.
