Location: Dowagiac

The Head Coach of Esports is primarily responsible for the development and administration of the Esports club team. This position recruits, selects, develops, and mentors students on the Esports team. The primary focus is on the students’ academic success, teaching the various esports games that are chosen by the team and development as good citizens and representatives of the College. Develops preliminary budget, schedule, training, travel and equipment needs.

In conjunction with the Director of Campus Life, works to establish fundraising goals and promotional visibility of the College. This position is paid $8,000 in equal bi-weekly payments.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma
  • Competitive esports experience
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues – desktop support administration
  • Understanding of recruiting techniques

  • Associate’s degree
  • Competitive esports experience, knowledge of competition rules and recruiting protocols.
Other Information

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recruits and maintains a roster of eligible student esport members, Coordinates with Admissions for prospective members.
  • Works with student esport assistants to maintain and facilitate esports arena hours of operation.
  • Works with student esport assistants to create practice schedules for each team.
  • Collaborates with NJCAAE officials to schedule and ensure competitions take place.
  • Works with Student Activity Center Coordinator to ensure players are eligible to compete.
  • Provides recommendations of equipment upgrades to the arena.
  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport, and/or attends regional combines and other events for recruiting purposes.
  • Serves as a liaison between SMC Esports and the National Junior College Athletic Association for Esports (NJCAAE).
  • Assists in the general operations of the SMC / MEC Fiber Cup.

2. The physical requirements of this position.
