Compensation: $23.70-$26.00 per hour

The Mechanic/Bus Driver supports the district's transportation department by assisting with the maintenance/repair of buses and other district vehicles. Working under the direction of the Director and lead mechanic, this role involves performing routine and emergency maintenance, helping with major repairs, and ensuring vehicles are safe and operational.

Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment is preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL B.P.S.) with air breaks and appropriate endorsements.
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain professional relationships with all district staff.
Knowledge of:
  • Fluids, tools, and materials commonly used in the servicing, maintenance, and repair of buses and other automotive equipment.
  • Safe working methods and proper maintenance procedures are essential.
Ability to:
  • Assist with the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of buses and other motorized vehicles.
  • Drive school bus routes as needed.
  • Identify common vehicle parts, tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Use standard hand tools and equipment typically used in the maintenance and repair of automotive equipment.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Assist with both scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance.
  • Under the direction of the lead mechanic, assist with a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks for buses and all district vehicles.
  • Support the disassembly, repair, and reassembly of engines, transmissions, and other major components.
  • Assist in the repair and maintenance of braking, steering, and electrical systems.
  • Perform engine tune-ups and ignition system adjustments.
  • Operate hand tools and mechanical aids for repair and maintenance tasks.
  • Respond to emergency roadside service calls.
  • Clean vehicles and maintenance facilities as directed.
  • Report any safety concerns to the lead mechanic.
  • Pick up and deliver vehicles and parts as needed.
  • Assist with sub driving a route if needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
