Overview
School Bus Attendant. This posting is for a position supporting Calhoun ISD operated by Dean Transportation, with route assignment opportunities from locations in Albion, Battle Creek, and Olivet, MI. Earn up to $18.00 per hour, with flexible scheduling options subject to operational needs. Paid training is provided. No prior experience is required. Benefits packages are available to eligible employees; 401(k) retirement plan available after one year of service, contingent on eligibility.
Summaryof Position
Safely and reliably assist students, other school district passengers, and the school bus driver during transportation to and from school, educational or sporting events, community-based programs and other special activities.
Specific Requirements- Meet all general qualifications for employment.
- Meet company, state, and school district standards for criminal history check.
- Meet physical examination requirements.
- Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by the company.
- Successfully complete position-specific training as established by the company.
- Safely care for and protect student passengers.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
- Instruct passenger riders regarding safety.
- Establish favorable working relationships with school bus drivers, office and maintenance personnel, other bus attendants, student passengers, parents, teachers, principals, and total school or program staff.
- Attend training sessions, annual in-service, and workshops conducted by Dean Transportation and/or other approved agencies to support self-improvement.
- Identify with geographic service area of the school district and routes traveled.
- Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations promulgated by local, state, and federal agencies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of state laws and local ordinances.
- Deal with exuberant behavior characteristics of student passengers.
- Administer disciplinary procedures in keeping with company policies.
- Be alert and exercise good judgment concerning emergencies and day-to-day operations.
- Successfully conduct a bus evacuation drill as required by company management.
- Keep accurate records and reports as required, submitted legibly and on time.
- Conduct yourself as a professional Dean Transportation staff member at all times.
- Secure adaptive equipment as required for each passenger according to company policies and procedures, at the discretion of the school bus driver.
- Be able to lift, store, and disassemble/assemble wheelchairs or other ambulatory devices as required (up to 40 pounds).
School Bus Attendants may be subject to work performance evaluations at any time during employment.
Body MechanicsEmployees must perform physical tasks including lifting, pulling, bending, and carrying heavy objects. Examples include opening/closing bus doors, handling wheelchairs, assisting passengers onto/off bus, and securing equipment. Tasks may require up to 40 pounds of lift or push/pull force as specified by job duties.
