Crawford School – Excelsior District #1 (5521 M72, Kalkaska, MI 49646).

Employment Type:

Part-Time (and as needed) 20+ hours.

Reports To:

Principal Brent Miller (bmiller OR ).

Position Summary: Crawford School is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and school-sponsored activities. The ideal candidate is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment for students while maintaining compliance with all transportation laws, district policies, and safety standards.

• Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and schedules.
• Conduct required pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle inspections.
• Ensure students board, ride, and exit the bus safely.
• Maintain appropriate student behavior and address concerns according to school policies.
• Follow all federal, state, and local traffic laws and transportation regulations.
• Maintain accurate route logs, mileage records, and required reports.
• Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and transportation personnel.
• Report accidents, incidents, mechanical issues, or safety concerns promptly.
• Keep the bus clean and presentable.
• Transport students for school activities as needed.
• Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and professional development.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements (or ability to obtain before employment).
• Current DOT medical certification.
• Clean driving record and satisfactory background check.
• Ability to pass required drug and alcohol screening.
• Knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.

• At least 1 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
• High School/Trade School degree preferred.
• Citizenship, residency or work visa required.

$21+ (depending on experience).
